Abstract
Oxygen self‐diffusion coefficients have been determined for MgO crystals over the temperature range 1300–1750°C. Results can be represented by the equation D=2.5×10—6 exp (—62 400/RT). By comparison with data for alkali halides and previous measurements for aluminum oxide, diffusion is probably extrinsic in nature. The diffusion coefficient for oxygen in this material is about two orders of magnitude less than that reported in the literature for magnesium. Keywords
