EFFECTS OF ATROPINE ON FOOD INGESTION AND WATER DRINKING IN DOGS

Abstract
Food ingestion and water drinking in dogs were measured after injn. of several doses of atropine sulfate. The drug exerted a real food ingestion inhibitory effect. The mechanism is not apparent. During the interval of feeding shortly after admn. of the atropine there was an inhibition of water drinking, but in general the ratio of water drunk daily to dry food ingested was not changed significantly. One quantity of pilocarpine HC1 produced no significant changes in the above measurements.
