Abstract
Thyroid uptake of radioiodine was studied 1 and 24 hrs. after intraven. admn. of 40-100 microcuries I131 in euthyroid subjects and subjects with various thyroid states. Normal uptake at 1 hr. was 4-11%. Uptake in hyperthyroid subjects at 1 hr. varied from 18-72%. Uptake in patients with nodular goiter was normal. The 1-hr. uptake correlated better with the clinical state of toxicity than did the 24-hr. uptake in the severely toxic patients. The method also offers advantages over the 24-hr. uptake in rapidity and simplicity. Correlation is made with basal metabolic rate and serum protein-bound I.Keywords
