Abstract
White spots on the surface of the toe nails is characteristic of this common superficial onychomycosis. The usual causal organism is Trichophyton mentagrophytes. Cephalosporium roseo-griseum. Aspergillus terreus and a member of the Fusarium oxysporum group are less common causes. Fungus invasion may occur anywhere on the surface of the toe nail and does not evoke the characteristic inflammatory reaction seen in ordinary subungual dermatophytosis. The hostparasite relationship is noteworthy, for although the fungus is growing “in-vivo” on the surface of the nail, it exhibits saprophytic features. Keywords
