Abstract
Eleven 4-biphenylyl 4”-n-alkoxybenzoates have been prepared and their liquid crystal transition temperatures measured. Comparison of the values obtained with those reported previously reveals one major and some minor differences. The homologous series was studied by differential thermal analysis and the enthalpies of fusion of the various transitions were measured. Smectic mesophases were identified as Smectic A.Keywords
