ρ-Exchange Mechanism in the Reaction π++pN33*+++π0

Abstract
We report a study of the reaction π++pN33*+++π0 at 3.54 BeV/c. We find very good agreement between the angular correlations observed in the decay of the N33* and the predictions by Stodolsky and Sakurai based on a single-ρ-exchange model. The reaction K++pN33*+++K0 has been found to display similar angular correlations, in agreement with the single-ρ-exchange mechanism. But we want to point out that the measured cross sections of both reactions decrease rapidly with increasing incident momentum, in contradiction with the results derived from a simple-ρ-exchange model as used, for example, by Jackson and Pilkuhn.
