A New Sensitive Method for the Determination of Peroxides of Fats and Fatty Acids.

Abstract
3,5-Dichloro-4,4''-dihydroxyphenylendiamine (I) reacts with peroxidized fats dissolved in an organic solvent when heated for 10 min. in a boiling water bath. The resulting dichloro-phenolindophenol is detd. colorimetrically at 520 mu. Considerably higher figures, especially for highly unsaturated compounds were found by this method when compared to that of King, et al. (Oil and Soap 10: 105. 1933). The prepn. of I is given.
