Additional Variation in Serum Proteins in Columbidae

Abstract
As determined by electrophoretic patterns in acrylamide gel, it appears that the transferrins in Streptopelia humilis are controlled by 2 codominant alleles. Only one transferrin type was noted in S. risoria, and it was similar if not identical with one in humilis, suggesting corresponding genes in the 2 spp. The albumin region showed either 1 or 2 bands in both spp. Matings between birds with 2 albumin bands to unclassified mates gave suggestive evidence of segregation. No variation of ceruloplasmin, lipoprotein, a macro-globulins, haptoglobin, post-albumin, pre-albumin or hemoglobin was observed within humilis, risoria or their backcross hybrids.
