Energy-Transfer Processes in Monochromatically Excited Iodine Molecules. IV. Collisional Release in υ′ ≃ 50

Abstract
Quenching and vibrational energy‐transfer cross sections are reported for the B state of I2, excited into its 50th and 53rd vibrational levels, colliding with the monatomic gases. Vibrational energy transfer is less efficient than in the 43rd level of this same state (see preceding paper). This is attributed to a competition by electronic quenching, which proceeds via the collisional‐release mechanism suggested by Callear.
