Abstract

SURGICAL treatment for aneurysm of the abdominal aorta and for aortic atherosclerosis with thrombotic occlusion is relatively new, and the results have been good.^{1 2 3} Because excision of the diseased aorta and replacement with a graft is a major procedure and because the renal arteries are close to the operative field, renal complications can be expected; 14 of the 22 patients dying at the Massachusetts General Hospital after aortic surgery had anuria or oliguria.The first case of anuria to be studied was caused by multiple emboli of atheromatous material from the aorta to the kidneys, with multiple renal infarcts and . . .
