PERFORATION OF THE INTERVENTRICULAR SEPTUM FOLLOWING MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION

Abstract
Rupture of the interventricular septum of the heart is apparently more common than previously realized. Although only 88 cases had been reported to date, this paper presents 5 additional cases, bringing the total to 93. Four of these 5 cases were confirmed by autopsy. The clinical features are typical. The prognosis is grave, and therefore recognition of these septal ruptures is important, yet they are probably often overlooked.
