Abstract
The 1st part of this paper is concerned with a statement of the conditions necessary for an ingestion of a particle through the operation of surface forces. It is essentially another method of arriving at Fenn''s conclusions. The 2nd part deals with the effect which would be brought about by the residence of an electrostatic charge on the cell and particle, respectively. It is shown that the presence of such a charge will influence the ingestion, principally by keeping the particle from leaving the region of the cell surface after an approach has once been made as the result of a chance collision.
