Treatment of Neurotic Depression with a New Antidepressant

Abstract
A placebo-controlled study was performed to compare the efficacy of trazodone with that of a standard tricyclic antidepressant, amitriptyline, in outpatients suffering from moderately severe to severe neurotic depression. The results of the various psychiatric rating scales and the physicians' overall evaluation of therapeutic response indicate that trazodone is a very effective antidepressant.
