PLASMA CATECHOLAMINE RESPONSES TO INTRAVENOUS GLUCOSE IN NORMAL MAN

Abstract
Plasma total catecholamine levels determined by a double isotope derivative method were increased approximately four-fold over basal three minutes following an intravenous 20 gram glucose pulse. This response appeared one minute after the insulin response and raises the possibility that endogenous catecholamine secretion may exert a damping effect upon acute insulin secretion during intravenous glucose tolerance testing.
