Abstract
Dormant seeds of a stock of Zea mays (L.) heterozygous for the yellow -green alleles, Yg2/yg2 were irradiated with abeam of muons ([mu]-particles) and of negative pi ([pi]-) mesons from the alternating gradient synchrotron at Brookhaven National Laboratory. The efficiency of muons in producing yellow-green sectors in the seedling leaves was [image]0.8 compared to 250 kVp X rays, while the relative efficiency of [pi]- mesons was about 3.4.Keywords
