Abstract
The paper gives a quick and concise introduction to orthogonal filter synthesis. Orthogonal filters are special well structured and well behaved modular algorithms that perform conventional digital filtering, making use of but 1 functional unit :the (Givens) plane rotation cell. Synthesis of such filters is a routine to determine-from some form of transfer function specification- type, number and order of (multi-cell) modules as well as values of constants (angles) in such modules. Number and type of modules is prescribed by the zeros of the transfer function. The order can be chosen at will. Angles of rotor cells are parameters in a generalized Schur parametrization recursion.
