Both human and simian growth hormones are biologically active in man, but only human growth hormone has been administered for long periods and shown to be satisfactory for prolonged treatment.68 It has been successfully used in pituitary dwarfism30, 68 69 70 71 72 and promises to be helpful in some cases of short stature without hypopituitarism, but its potential use in other conditions that may be helped by an anabolic agent has only begun to be investigated.
