Abstract
During admn. of cortisone and ACTH to humans, rabbits, mice and guinea pigs the number of mast cells in the connective tissue decreased and appeared degenerated. Since mast cells are presumably the origin of hyaluronic acid in the connective tissue ground substance this suppressive action is of importance in relation to the effect of cortisone on connective tissue diseases in which increased amts. of hyaluronic acid play an essential role. Keywords
