Abstract
Presentation of CaseA 58-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital because of renal failure.There was a history of hypertension for 17 years. An intravenous urographic examination, performed at the time of the diagnosis, showed no abnormality. Eleven years before admission an automated scan of blood-chemistry determinations, performed elsewhere, showed no abnormality except that the alkaline phosphatase was 2.7 U (normal, 0.6 to 2.5 U); the cholesterol was 232 mg per 100 ml (normal, 140 to 310 mg). Another intravenous urographic examination, performed at a second hospital, was again reported to be negative. Three and a half years before . . .
