Temporal numerosity: III. Auditory perception of number.

Abstract
The perceived number of auditory pulses as a function of the presented number was obtained for rates of 10, 15, and 30 pulses per sec. It was found that the plotted curves of perceived number versus presentation time for all three rates had approximately the same slope, which corresponded to a perceptual rate of about 10 pulses/sec. Since this was in basic agreement with the perceptual rate found under similar conditions for the visual sense modality, it was concluded that a common temporal process in the central nervous system acts upon both modalities.
