Abstract
Hyperplasia of the squamous epithelium in the forestomach of rats fed a diet of white flour is prevented by adding lactoflavine, nicotinic acid, cystine, and rice polish concentrate to the diet. With a diet of white flour, protein or starvation are not important factors in production of the lesions. The relation of local irritation to formation of the lesions and the relation of the non-specific protective factors to sensitivity of epithelial cells to proliferative stimuli is discussed.
