Abstract
The comparative cytology of the G. hirsutum x G. longicalyx hybrid and previously analysed Gossypium hybrids indi-cates that G. longicalyx represents a unique Gossypium cytotype. The new cytotype is designated the F genome and G. longicalyx is assigned to the F1 subgenome.
