Charge-Exchange Scattering of Low-EnergyK−Mesons in Hydrogen

Abstract

The momentum dependence of the cross section for the reaction $K^{-}+p\to {\overline{K}}^0+n$ has been determined. The data are analyzed in terms of an effective-range approximation to the $K^{-}-p$ phase shifts. A comparison is made to other studies of low-energy $K^{-}-p$ interactions, and the data are used to infer the existence of a $\overline{K}N$ $S$-wave bound state.
