ZINC-DITHIZONE REACTION OF PANCREATIC ISLETS

Abstract
The application of the zinc-dithizone reaction (J. Histochem. Cytochem. 1:493-504, 1953) to pancreatic islets in a variety of common laboratory animals and man. A negative reaction was obtained only for the guinea pig. Due to the solubility of the Zn containing material, the technique was reliable only when applied to fresh frozen or frozen-dried material. The staining reaction could be abolished or appreciably reduced by experimental treatment with alloxan or dithizone.
