THE RELATIONSHIP OF THE RENAL EXCRETION OF ADRENAL CORTICOIDS TO VARIATIONS IN RENAL HEMODYNAMICS 1

Abstract
The urinary excretion of biologically-active and chemical adrenal corticoids was evaluated in dogs in which controlled acute unilateral alterations of renal hemodynamics were produced during periods of adrenal hormone admn. Biologically-active adrenal corticoids in the urine were measured by the Speirs" mouse eosinophil bioassay. Chemical urinary corticoids were determined by applying the Porter-Silber reaction directly to butanol extracts of urine acidified to pH 1 and washed with 0.1 N NaOH. With reduction of glomerular filtration rate, there occurred a prompt decrease in excretion of both biologically-active and chemical adrenal corticoids.
