A Comparative in vitro Study of GK-101 and GK-101E in Caries Removal

Abstract
An in vitro efficacy screening study on extracted teeth using various nitrogen-containing compounds related to the basic GK-101 formula [active ingredient is N-monochloroglycine, NMG, used in caries removal] was conducted. The results of this preliminary investigation indicated that the ethyl derivative of the GK-101 (NMG) formulation appeared to be a more rapid caries removal agent. The ethyl derivative of NMG is N-monochloro-DL-2-aminobutyrate (NMAB), designated as GK-101E. Before proceeding with further clinical trials on GK-101, it was considered advisable to conduct a single blind in vitro study on extracted carious human teeth to evaluate the efficacy of NMG, NMAB and a control solution of saline.
