Abstract
The preparation of a number of new complexes of tin(II) materials with oxygen donor ligands is reported. The new complexes described are SnX2,Ph3PO (X = Cl, Br, NCS, or ClO4); SnX2,2Ph3PO (X = Cl or Br); SnX2, C5H5NO (X = Br or NCS); SnX2,2Me2SO (X = Br or NCS); SnSO4,(NH2)2CO; SnCl2,(NH2)2CO; SnCl2,Ph3AsO; SnX2,2L (X = Cl or Br, L = tetrahydrofuran); 2SnX2,L (X = Cl or Br, L = diglyme); SnX2,L (X = Cl or Br, L = 1,4-dioxan or 1,4-thioxan). The following new complexes with sulphur-containing donor molecules were prepared for comparison: SnX2,L (X = Cl or Br, L = 1,4-dithian). The i.r. and 119Sn Mössbauer data of these complexes and of some of the known adducts of tin(II) compounds with these ligands are reported and are discussed in terms of the structures of and bonding in these materials. For some systems (ligand = acetone, dimethylformamide, 1,2-dimethoxyethane, diethyl sulphide, tetrahydrothiophen), from which no solid product could be isolated, information on the tin(II)–ligand bond was obtained from solutions of tin(II) halides in the ligand.
