Abstract
The catabolism of glucose in tomatoes, cucumbers, limes and oranges was studied by means of the radiorespirometric method, which measures the production of C14O2 from fruit metabolizing Cl4 specifically labeled glucose. The operation of an oxidative pathway involving a C1-C5 cleavage of glucose molecules has been demonstrated in these fruits. A method was also devised in estimating pathway participations in tomatoes which reveals that 84% and 16% of the fruit glucose is catabolized via the EMP-TCA processes and the alternate oxidative route, respectively. This publication has 9 references indexed in Scilit:
