Abstract
Inhibition of the normal hematopoietic response to Fe and Cu feeding was observed in dogs on milk diets made anemic by hemorrhage and fed Co prior to the Fe and Cu. Hematopoietic activity was resumed on feeding whole dry liver or liver extract. The compounds in liver which cause this profound hematopoietic response were not ascertained. A temporary polycythemia occurred in adult dogs when 3 to 6 mg. of Co per kg. of body wt. were added to the usual mineralized milk diets. High Co intake had a toxic effect on young growing dogs and little apparent effect on the blood picture. This publication has 8 references indexed in Scilit:
