Abstract
A new method is proposed for examining the dependence on the magnetization of the sum of the one-particle energy and the magnetic energy, which is usually assumed to be proportional to the square of magnetization, for electrons in the band model. By this method conditions of ferromagnetism for electrons in metals with an arbitrarily complicated density of states are discussed. General conditions of ferromagnetism in this case are given, and it is shown that the conditions of ferromagnetism for electrons in the band model depend on the general topology of the density of states, the position of the Fermi level and the value of the molecular field coefficient. Applications of these conditions to real ferromagnetic transition metals and their alloys are discussed.
