Abstract
Discharges of spike-potentials in respiratory rhythm have been recorded from the medulla oblongata of rabbits by micro-leads connected with a push-pull amplifier. Two separated areas were located, a ventro-medial inspiratory part and a dorsolateral expiratory part. The inspiratory area is situated mainly in the reticular substance at the level of the entrance of the vagi; the expiratory area seems connected with the spinal trigeminal root and to run with the solitary tract. These findings fully agree with the results of a series of expts. with localized stimulation of the respiratory structures. Keywords
