Abstract
Summary Sixty-one patients had emergency obstetric hysterectomy for ruptured uterus (37), postpartum haemorrhage (22) and sepsis (2). The lowest mortality (4 per cent) followed subtotal hysterectomy in booked patients while the highest mortality (50 per cent) followed total hysterectomy in unbooked patients. The overall maternal mortality was 26.2 per cent. Keywords
