Abstract
In tests made on one subject at ages 35, 45-48, and 60, the BMR was normal up to 46, then fell sharply although wt. was being lost, but returned to normal under light estrin medication. The usual cyclic pattern of BMR was clear until age 47, but the progestin period was shortened. At 48 the estrin period became uneven. In 2 subjects the cycle length first showed shortening, then the interpolation of occasional long cycles, and finally a few very long cycles. Basal temps. followed the same pattern as BMR. Small doses of estrin raised BMR slightly and relieved menopausal symptoms, but larger doses depressed BMR and exaggerated the symptoms. During hot flashes cheek temp. rose 0.5-2[degree]C.Keywords
