Abstract
Two equations are derived giving the effect of porosity in the form of spherical pores upon the pressure derivative dK/dp of bulk modulus. In the first equation, dK/dp is expressed in terms of porosity and the second‐order elastic constants for the solid material, whereas in the second equation, the third‐order constants are needed as well. The expressions are evaluated for thirteen materials, showing that dK/dp for porous material may be either larger or smaller than the value for the solid matrix. Keywords
