TORULOSIS OF THE CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM IN BRITAIN

Abstract
Three cases of torulosis of the central nervous system occurring in Britain are reported, the diagnosis being made during life in 2 patients. The symptomatology, pathology and differential diagnosis are discussed and some of the characteristics of the organism (Cryptococcus neoformans) producing the disease are considered. Although all 3 cases were fatal, recent work with a newly introduced antifungal drug, Amphotericin B, suggests that early diagnosis and treatment may be rewarding.
