Recognizing the next heavy quark atpp¯colliders

Abstract

The next heavy quark is likely to be found first at $p\overline{p}$ colliders rather than at $e^{+}{e}^{-}$ machines, in which case the expected signals from different kinds of candidate quark will be rather similar. We discuss the problem of distinguishing between the awaited top quark $t$, a possible fourth-generation charge -⅓ quark $v$, and an exotic isosinglet charge -⅓ quark $h$.
