Abstract
There was no effect on the hemoglobin level and red-cell survival time in 6 cases. The number of painful crises could, however, be reduced, and 5 of the patients were enabled to lead a normal life. The exception was one child whose home supervision of the alkali regime was not satisfactory. Keywords
