Abstract
A review is given of the etiologic factors, ovarian and endometrial correlates and hormo-nology of functional uterine bleeding. Therapeutic experiences with gonadotropes of diverse natures and origins are reviewed. Previously reported observations concerning the effects of the various sex-sterols upon active episodes of estrogenic bleeding are summarized. A form of treatment is described which employs the cyclic adm. of estrogen and progesterone or of progesterone alone. Observations are reported on 12 patients with functional uterine bleeding who received in all 46 series of treatments. During the period of treatments regular cyclic bleeding occurred and following discontinuation of the injs. none experienced a return of excessive bleeding.
