Creative Responsiveness to Objects: A Report of a Pilot Study with Young Apes

Abstract
A study with 6 young great apes suggests that problem-solving skills and creative responsiveness in play with new materials is in part a reflection of experience that entails the use of a variety of test materials for each of a series of tasks. Great ape infants are promising candidates for research that explores parameters of cognitive development, generic learning, and the development of complex learning skills.
