Abstract
Formulae are derived, on the basis of the primary electron hypothesis, which describe the behavior of counters exposed to the large air showers. In particular, expressions for the variation of counting rate with area of the counters, number of counters, and altitude are given, and seem to agree fairly well with experiment, except for the latter at very high altitudes. Keywords
