FIXATION OF ISOTOPIC NITROGEN BY CLOSTRIDIUM

Abstract
In a study of anaerobic N fixation 15 spp. of the genus Clostridium were tested for their ability to assimilate atmospheric N. The isotopic method, a test for detection of N-fixation more sensitive than the Kjeldahl method, was employed. Only 3 of the spp., Clostridium acidi urici, C. sporogenes and C. perfringens. consistently failed to fix free isotopic N.
