Some dislocation interactions in simple ionic crystals

Abstract
Dislocation intersections in ionic crystals can produce both charged and uncharged jogs, m well as vacancies and interstitial ions. Dislocation reactions helped by the retarding effect of these jogs, can give rise to sessile dislocations by a zip-fastening mechanism. In this way the formation of boundaries during irrational twinning may be explained.
