The enhancement of radiographic and fluoroscopic [human] images using simple video analog techniques is described. In each instance, the degree of enhancement and the features of the image to be enhanced are under the direct control of the radiologist. Noise is suppressed with a sharp cut-off, low-pass filter. Analog circuits providing edge sharpening and contrast enhancement, allowing black or white suppression, with expansion of the remaining shades of gray, and providing an exponential response to selectable portions of the input signal are discussed.
