Ureteral Peristaltic Pressures in Dogs with Changing Urine Flows

Abstract
Ureteral peristaltic pressures with changing urine flows were studied in 55 mongrel, female dogs with previous exteriorization of the bladder onto the abdominal wall. Ureteral pressure recordings were made on a Sanborn twin-viso recorder and urine flow was varied by intravenous infusion. It was found that the flow of urine in the ureter changes from intermittent passages of a bolus of urine during antidiuresis to a pulsatile, streaming, and then almost continuous flow of urine during the height of diuresis. The systolic pressure falls as this sequence of events develops. With complete distension of the ureter pulsations are transmitted from the renal artery.
