Abstract
The preparation and basic dielectric properties of the metaniobates and metatantalates of iron, manganese, lead, tin, calcium, strontium and barium (all in the divalent state), and trivalent aluminium are described. Manganese metatantalate, barium metaniobate, and aluminium metaniobate have been found to be ferroelectric, and lead metatantalate antiferroeloctric. These are in addition to ferroelectric lead metaniobate discovered by Goodman in 1953. Strontium and barium metatantalates may have transition points below − 183°c.Keywords
