Abstract
In the extrapolation method for determining the dissociation constant of a weak acid the value of the limiting equivalent conductance is not known from independent measurements, and both the limiting equivalent conductance Λ0 and the dissociation constant K are obtained from conductimetric measurements on solutions of the acid. While clearly convenient, the reliability of the method has been questioned. In the present paper equations are derived which express the effect on K and on Λ0 of errors in the experimental quantities. For water as solvent, tables are given showing the numerical values of the errors. The possibility of detecting constant errors is discussed.
