Differences in Strains of Trichomonas vaginalis as Revealed by Intraperitoneal Injections into Mice

Abstract
Thirteen strains were tested. One strain, C-1, derived from a case of severe vaginitis regularly killed mice in dosages of 1 x 106[degree] or higher. Another strain, R, from a mild infection failed to kill mice. Other strains from esses of moderate symp-tomatology did not reveal such clear cut differences. Strains isolated from the same person on different occasions showed differences in patho-genicity. Six strains of mice, inbred, brother-sister, and general purpose random matings, were tested for susceptibility to the trichomonads. All were similar except for a possible greater susceptibility in the case of one of the inbred strains, A/LN. The regularity of death of mice injected with the C-l strain of parasite suggested its usefulness in chemotherapeu-tic trials.
