Abstract
The rate of glucose utilization by eviscerated rabbits is variable (45-236 mgm. per kgm/hr.). Without complications, rabbits survive 27-46 hrs. Preoperative fasting seems to decrease the glucose need, but docs not alter the course otherwise. Eviscerated rabbits live longer than hepatectomized rabbits and show no unusual symptoms, and no marked increase in the need for glucose. These differences support the idea of a detoxifying function of the liver. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
