Electric Field ahead of Normal Ionizing Shock Waves

Abstract
Measurements of the transverse electric field ahead of a normal ionizing shock wave are presented for Alfvén Mach numbers in excess of the ideal‐gas limit of two. A simple expression is derived to explain the results.
