Radius optimisation in an ultrasonic specimen with a circular gauge profile

Abstract

When a hyperbolic cosine is used as an approximate profile function for a specimen with a circular gauge profile, it is shown that there is a unique profile radius Gamma which minimises the errors occasioned by the approximation.
